What is it?
In the fifth edition of our Collab Series, we’re doing all things virtuoso. Mind-bending licks, tasty fusion phrasing and more notes than the brain can handle.
It begins with the finger-picking lord, Matteo Mancuso, who combines his brand of lightning legato with juicy vibrato, bends and tasteful melodic moments where you can catch your breath.
Jack Gardiner then takes the baton with a solo that explores arpeggios across the neck, takes real sonic risks alongside classic fusion phrasing concepts, and rounds it all off with some signature ascending sweep picking.
Next, there’s speed, there’s tension and release and a whole lot of bonkers. It’s George Karayiannis mixing up dirty rock phrasing with wtf pentatonic licks, in a shreddy solo, packed with memorable motifs.
The torch is then passed to Josh Meader who enters the scene with a furious tapping lick that sets the marker for the rest. His solo is big on bends, heavy on chromaticism and has more than its fair share of legato.
Speaking of which, here comes Max Ostro. Yes, there’s his trademark legato, but he combines it with effortless hybrid picking, more delicious bends and tasteful phrases that perfectly fit the 80s-inspired funky groove on offer.
