Playing outside the key is a really great way to make your listener’s ear prick up and peak their attention. This masterclass is based around John’s main PDF document which builds on the ideas laid out in the first volume. John will take you step by step through the process of learning and implementing these outside concepts using plenty of highly musical examples!

This time you’ll be working with a really great minimal progression in a minor backing track that will leave you lots of room for experimenting both harmonically and rhythmically, to find out what works best!

Using the exercises and longer phrases you’ll be working with pentatonics and blues scales as a base, then learning how to sprinkle in exciting outside concepts such as superlocrian, diminished and other symmetrical scales, with implied arpeggios, chromatics and more to nail some of those outside dissonant ideas that players like Mike Stern and Pat Martino use all the time!

Lastly, after practising hard with the exercises, learning and mastering the longer musical phrases and internalising the PDF content, it’s time to pull it all together and take on your final challenge in the form of the full solo!
