What’s it about?
Haken’s Richard Henshall is renowned for his fluent and creative use of tapping and in this 21-Day Fix, he’ll show you how to tap into his approach. Play your way through daily exercises and licks, and bring it all together with a “solo” for homework.
The focus throughout is how to make the most of the skill while staying as musical as possible. If you have a beginner or intermediate grasp of tapping, this will help you elevate it.
If you commit each day and follow Richard’s guidance you will see steady, sustainable improvements. A world of colour awaits.
What will I learn?
Week 1: Basic Techniques and Pentatonics
Start with the basics of a single string, expand a little bit each day, and learn how to move up and down pentatonic positions. The week ends with a tap bend which sets you up for Week 2, where you begin to combine tapping with other skills.
Week 2: Modal and Scaler Runs
This week is based on faster runs and 3 note per string ideas. You will musically use scales and work on the transitioning between picking and tapping.
Week 3: Arpeggios Wide Stretches and Musical Application
In the final week, you will see how Richard uses arpeggios when tapping, and the simple tactics he employs to transform them. With challenging licks and a beautifully melodic solo to tackle, you will need to take each day slowly, but it’s in this week that everything comes together.
