In this full three-part masterclass, Luca has created a plethora of exercises and licks from the very manageable progressing to the very challenging! All taking you through the fundamentals, the essentials and the downright ludicrously creative ideas that he puts into his solos every day!

Each masterclass volume is based around a main PDF lesson giving you all the information, explanations and tips/tricks to easily understand the key information. Then you’ll have exercises designed to help drill and concrete the concepts into your playing, followed by some ‘real world’ ideas in the forms of licks. Rounding off each volume is the full solo, filled with lots of extra ideas for you to utilise, which is your final challenge to master before moving on!

Here’s what you’ll be learning in each of the three volumes:

Beginner:

In this volume, Luca breaks down the walls between you and the jazz theory teaching you everything you need to know allowing the players who don’t yet have the veteran jazz chops or advanced theory degrees to still access and use some of the more complex theory concepts, without ever feeling overwhelmed! Fear not, he breaks it all down and explains the theory for you in an easy-to-understand manner.

You’ll cover concepts like major and minor 2-5-1’s and the diatonic chords they come from, using the superlocrian scale in 5-1 resolution cadences. Luca will also take you through all the scale shapes you’ll need, how to switch between them on the fly and how to use tension and release over the 2-5-1 so you can resolve all your lines like a pro and sound like you know what you’re doing - because you soon will!

Intermediate:

In the beginner series Luca taught you all about tension and release over the 5-1 section of the progression with highly accessible playing ideas. In this intermediate section he’s adding in that infamous 2 chord to the mix, and dialing up the challenge factor a little more to keep you learning and on your toes!

Luca will take you through the process of learning all of the modes in 5 shapes and taking scales through each section of the chord progression. You’ll also learn the ‘ins and outs’ of targeting chord tones within 2-5-1s and work on how various pentatonic scales can be used to create interesting melodic 2-5-1 ideas! You’ll also be working with the addition of an altered VI chord (a common addition to the 2-5-1 progression) so that we’ve got you covered with some ideas for when that inevitably comes up too!


Advanced:

Reach new levels of soloing freedom and melodic possibilities using advanced scales and arpeggios, as Luca extends the progression in this third and final instalment of his 2-5-1 masterclass series!

In this volume, Luca shows you how to really get the most out of soloing over the 2-5-1 with the use of arpeggios, altered dominants and a focus on the superlocrian scale! With plenty of exercises, this volume has been designed to really take your fretboard navigation skills to new heights. By leaving no stone unturned with advanced arpeggio studies and looped exercises, Luca will help you develop the proficiency and ease required to pull out endless soloing ideas when creating your own 2-5-1 vocabulary! This will require you to dig deep and muster up some killer chops at times, but you can take it as slow as you like because everything you need is ready to be analysed!
